The Origin Story

Java Vale unites three coffee-growing traditions with complementary strengths. In Brazil’s Sul de Minas, established estates like the Gabarra family manage large-scale farms while preserving native forest and prioritizing sustainability. Costa Rica’s Tarrazú region contributes smallholder farmers who hand-pick Bourbon and Caturra varietals, delivering cherries to cooperative mills renowned for meticulous washed processing. Indonesia’s Sumatra adds the voices of rural farming communities near Lake Toba, where coffee is cultivated on small plots using techniques that have remained unchanged for generations.

The blend spans three landscapes across the coffee belt: Brazil’s gently undulating red-soil highlands, Tarrazú’s volcanic valleys in Costa Rica, and the lush, humid terrain around Sumatra’s vast volcanic lake. These diverse environments create a tapestry of terroirs — Brazil’s steady sweetness, Costa Rica’s structured vibrance, and Sumatra’s earthy complexity — each bringing its own story to the blend.

Java Vale is crafted for drinkers who enjoy layered balance. Brazilian beans provide a smooth, chocolate-toned backbone; Costa Rican coffees lift the blend with brightness and clean sweetness; and Sumatran lots contribute body and rustic depth. Java Vale precision cups:

18g in • 36g out • fine grind • 26–30 s extraction for berry-chocolate balance

16g coffee • 200g water just off boil • medium‑fine grind • 10g water 5s bloom, then 190g water stir 5s • 30s slow press at 1:30 until hiss

16g coffee • 110g water • medium-fine grind • stop at first gurgle for fruit-forward sweetness

30g coffee • 480g water • coarse grind • 4 min steep • break crust and plunge gently

20g coffee • 320g water • medium grind • 45 s bloom at 2x dose • total brew ~2:40 for clarity and berry notes

I'm on my second single origin purchase now and they have both been delicious. Aeropress grind has been spot on, but I will probably get whole beans next so I have more options in grinding myself. Overall, amazing coffee, quick delivery and I can highly recommend.
